Nolan Eason

At 1:03AM on Friday, March 30, 2012 my first child was born - a son. We named him Nolan Eason. 21" long, 5lb 3oz. He was beautiful and perfect in every way, except that he was stillborn. As we searched for answers to his untimely death, we also searched for comfort. This blog was created as a way of working through my sorrow by trying to find something beautiful in the world each day. Hopefully, along the way it will help others to heal as well.

New Toys

After only a few hours of sleep, I got up and headed to Wilmington at 8am this morning. I had to be at our house by 1:30pm in order to close on our refinance and I wanted to attempt to vote at early voting when I got into town. It was just a bit before noon when I pulled into downtown Wilmington where I met Marshall in an attempt to vote early at the New Hanover library. Well, after waiting in line for about 30 minutes and getting virtually nowhere we decided there was no way we were going to be able to vote and make it home by 1:30pm, so we left. We got home in plenty of time to meet the closing officer and fill out all of our paperwork. Success! We have now saved ourselves $300 a month on our mortgage and only had to shell out $5k to do it. Ugh. We were hoping not to have to pay anything but with our loan so underwater, we had to come up with the difference in the home value and our current loan amount. At least we get to skip two monthly payments. That should help with some of it. And if we stay in the house 2 more years, we will make up for all the money we just spent.

By the time the woman left, I was starving. So we went and grabbed some lunch and then went to run some errands. Since I came home with two new gifts for the baby, Marshall decided that JoJo needed a new gift too. While we were at Target, Marshall found a new squeaky toy for JoJo since she loves squeakers. This thing was oblong and had two different squeakers in it, one on each end. It was made to look like a lion face on one end and its tail on the other.  She LOVED it! She wouldn't stop squeaking it. And let me tell you that thing is loud! So loud we could hardly hear the TV over it. She wanted us to play fetch with her with it at first and then when she grew tired of that she simply laid down and squeaked it and squeaked it and squeaked it. I'm pretty sure she slept with the thing in her mouth.

In fact the only time that evening that JoJo actually put the lion toy down was when Marshall asked her if she wanted a bath. Ever since JoJo's allergy shots ended, Marshall had been bathing her once or twice a week with an antibacterial soap to keep her skin allergies at bay. Whenever she starts to scratch, showing signs that her allergies are kicking up, Marshall gives her a bath and she immediately seems relieved. Today she had been scratching more and more as the day went on. When Marshall finally asked her if she wanted a bath, she got up and went into the guest bathroom and hopped into the tub. Well, I guess so! Never has she so willingly gone into the bathtub before but I guess she is figuring out that the baths really help her feel better so she doesn't mind them. Needless to say, Marshall had no choice but to give her a bath then and there. As soon as she was let out of the bath, she immediately reconnected with her new toy and the squeaking started all over again.

We ended up picking up dinner at Big Thai 2, going home and eating and watching all the DVRd shows of X Factor I hadn't seen. It ended up being a great night at home although it was a pretty short night for me. I was so exhausted from my lack of sleep and my 4 hour drive home that I fell asleep at 8:30pm. When I woke up Marshall was dozing on the couch and it was late so I woke him and we both went to bed.
