Nolan Eason

At 1:03AM on Friday, March 30, 2012 my first child was born - a son. We named him Nolan Eason. 21" long, 5lb 3oz. He was beautiful and perfect in every way, except that he was stillborn. As we searched for answers to his untimely death, we also searched for comfort. This blog was created as a way of working through my sorrow by trying to find something beautiful in the world each day. Hopefully, along the way it will help others to heal as well.

3 Hour Test

This morning I had the pleasure of doing another glucose test to test for gestational diabetes. This time it was a 3 hour long test. Oh boy. I have been dreading this test for some time knowing that it was probably going to show that I once again had developed gestational diabetes. The first test your fasting blood, which I passed. Then they make you drink a glass of some very sugary drink and then test your blood every hour for the next 3 hours to see how your body is coping with the sugar intake. All said in done, you end up having your finger pricked and blood tested 4 times. If you fail the first 3 test, they don't even bother making you stay for the last hour. The first hour test I failed by 1 point. The 2nd and 3rd hour I passed with flying colors! Yippee! No gestational diabetes...yet. They had tested me early to see if they could catch it early in me, which means they will retest me again later in my pregnancy closer to 28 weeks which is when most women are tested for it.

Since I passed and I didn't have to concern myself with carbs just yet, Marshall and I celebrated by having lunch at PT's. I enjoyed every bite of my grilled chicken sandwich and I left not a single french fry behind. After lunch we headed to Wilmington Maternal Fetal Medicine for our 3pm ultrasound. Once in with the ultrasound tech, Marshall asked her if it was still a boy. She smiled but happily showed him the baby's penis yet again. She even gave Marshall a great print out to prove he was still a boy! With each ultrasound the baby is getting easier to see and actually know what we are looking at without the tech telling us.

Tonight we went to Dino's house to celebrate his son Dylan's 1st birthday. Dino had us pick up pizza from Terrazzo's on the way over there. Not wanting to go overboard with the carbs just yet, I decided to not try my luck with french fries and pizza on the same day, so I abstained from the pizza. Dylan had grown quite a bit from the last time we saw him. While he wasn't walking just yet or really even trying, he was crawling like a mad man and saying "uh oh," usually followed by him dropping the ball he had in his hands on the floor. We tried to get him to say something else for us, but he simply repeated "uh oh" over and over again. After he opened all his presents and played with the rubber cars we gave him for awhile, we decided it was cake time. He was starting to get sleepy so we wanted to sing to him before he completely crashed on him. He just stared wide eyed at us as we sung and then watched his Dad blow out the big #1 candle on his cupcake. Although he ate a little icing off my finger, when he got icing on his fingers he went into a full blown melt down. Apparently, the kid does not like having his hands dirty.

Marshall and Stacey and I said goodnight so Dino could get Dylan ready for bed and we headed over to my house to watch X Factor. Shea met us over there and brought me some wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. We turned on X Factor and I made it through most of it before I fell asleep on the couch. Marshall, Stacey and Shea enjoyed the last couple of acts without me and when I woke up the girls were gone and Marshall was watching Ancient Aliens. We realized then that Shea had actually left her cell phone. Uh oh. How are you supposed to get up with someone who only has a cell phone to let them know they left their cell phone at your house? I sent her a message on Facebook hoping she would see it when she got home. No sooner had I sent it then Shea pulled up in our driveway. She was nearly halfway home to Leland when she realized she had left it so she came back. I gladly gave it to her and apologized for falling asleep on her. I'm pretty sure I was sound asleep again as soon as my head hit the pillow in bed.
