Nolan Eason

At 1:03AM on Friday, March 30, 2012 my first child was born - a son. We named him Nolan Eason. 21" long, 5lb 3oz. He was beautiful and perfect in every way, except that he was stillborn. As we searched for answers to his untimely death, we also searched for comfort. This blog was created as a way of working through my sorrow by trying to find something beautiful in the world each day. Hopefully, along the way it will help others to heal as well.

It's a BOY!

Our full day of appointments began at 9:30am. We started with the triage nurse at Wilmington Health OB to go over our genetic history, which seemed redundant and silly since we were just here doing this less than a year ago. She did try to skim over as much as she could and I'm sure she hated having to redo it all just as much as we did. We did get another bag full of goodies and coupons and another reusable grocery bag. An hour later we had our monthly check up appointment with Dr. McLean. She listened to the baby's heartbeat with the doppler and everything sounded great. I was measuring just as I should. Since I hadn't eaten yet that morning, Dr. McLean wanted me to go ahead and stay for my hour long glucose test. Marshall left me to run an errand so I sat and read the finale script of Homeland that I had just been handed a day before. I ended up failing the 1 hour test by 4 points! Ugh. Now that means I have to do the dreaded 3 hour long glucose test. Gross. It's looking like the gestational diabetes may be cropping its head again.

I was finally able to leave Wilmington Health OB at 1pm - only 3 1/2 hours after I first got there! That has to be some kind of record. Marshall picked me up and we went and had lunch at El Cerro in Monkey Junction. No sooner had we finished than we had to rush over to Wilmington Maternal Fetal Medicine for our second doctor's appointment of the day and our most highly anticipated one - the Anatomy Ultrasound! Our appointment was at 2:30 and although not as cooperative as some we did get a couple of very distinct bottom shots - It's a BOY! I saw the relief rush over Marshall's face when the tech told him. Marshall asked her so many times if she was sure it was a boy that of all the six pictures we were given, 1 was a print out of his feet and 5 were pictures of his penis! Yep, it is a boy any way you look at it.

On the way home we stopped by Party City and picked up a "It's a Boy" balloon to take with us to Brandy and Bryce's engagement party. We barely had time to run home and change clothes before Mom and Billy picked us up and we headed to LaGrange for Brandy's engagement party. When we got to the party, the whole family was there and they were dying to know the sex of the baby. We handed Brandy a gift wrapped bag to open to reveal the sex to everyone. When the "It's a Boy" balloon popped out, the entire family cheered and some crazy lady exclaimed to Brandy, "Are you pregnant?"

Geeze. Way to drop in on a family moment you know nothing about. I just looked at the lady with my baby bump sticking out like really? I had a good time at Brandy's party. I met most of her 8 bridesmaids, even though I don't remember any of their names except the two I already knew before - Holly and Elle. Brandy and Bryce seemed to have a good time though and that's all that really matters.

It wasn't until 11pm when we pulled up to our house. I was so glad to have not driven. Marshall and I both were so exhausted when we finally got home, but I was glad it worked out that I could actually go to Brandy's party. Things like that are rarely ever possible when we are on a show, so it was fun to actually be able to be somewhat normal for a change and actually go to someone's party. Plus, I knew it meant a lot to Brandy just as it had meant a lot to Marshall and me when we had our engagement parties so I am glad we could be there for her.
