Nolan Eason

At 1:03AM on Friday, March 30, 2012 my first child was born - a son. We named him Nolan Eason. 21" long, 5lb 3oz. He was beautiful and perfect in every way, except that he was stillborn. As we searched for answers to his untimely death, we also searched for comfort. This blog was created as a way of working through my sorrow by trying to find something beautiful in the world each day. Hopefully, along the way it will help others to heal as well.

Storms

I woke up a lot last night. Some to pee but mostly because of the tremendous rain storm we were having. The thunder was cracking right above our house and the lightening was so bright it was lighting up the entire room. It was bothering JoJo too as a couple of times when I got up I heard her whining a bit at it. Realizing I too was affected by the storm, she decided to move and come lay on the floor by me so I could reach down and pet her. At one point I had to go to our front porch and turn off our motion activated Christmas tree. It sings whenever something activates it but the storm was so loud and so vigorous it kept setting it off.

When we woke up this morning it was still raining and very gloomy outside. So we made some coffee and lounged around a bit. Marshall confessed he had not known about the storm last night until he saw it was raining upon waking up. I really have no idea how he could have possibly slept through it. I wonder if he will be as oblivious to our child's cries as he is to the loud cracking thunder? One would hope not. I shouldn't be the only one that has to awaken every 3 hours when we bring the baby home. He should have to endure some of the sleepless nights too. It's only fair.

Eventually, Marshall decided to take his laptop and go to Port City Java and see if our Belkin @TV worked from afar. Well, it did but not without some hiccups. It caused the DVR at home to change channels every time he changed channels. Not exactly what we were hoping for. It will still work for our purposes but we will probably end up getting an additional cable box that we can dedicate the Belkin @TV to. It will still be much cheaper than paying for an entire additional cable package out of town. He came back home and picked me up and we went to grab some lunch at Panera. There's nothing like a warm bowl of soup on a rainy day. Fortunately, at least it wasn't a cold rainy day. After lunch we went to Kohl's to get a couple of links taken out of my watch and to spend the $30 in Kohl's cash I had received. I ended up buying another maternity shirt with the money. On the way home we stopped at Harris Teeter to pick up a few things for dinner and rented a movie from Redbox. We had thought about going to the theater to see another movie but decided against it.

Back home Marshall played Call of Duty on the Xbox and I watched Friends reruns and fell asleep only to be awoken by Marshall yelling at the game. You know if he wasn't so loud and vocal when he played I would probably not mind the game so much. I really don't understand the point of yelling at the game, especially when you aren't actually talking live to someone you are playing with. The house really is so much quieter when Marshall isn't here simply because nobody is yelling at the Xbox all the time. It's peaceful. That's ok. He will learn his lesson. First time he is home all day with the baby and sleepy because he was up all night and the baby finally falls asleep and he tries to play Xbox... that baby is going to wake up screaming because of Marshall and he will have nobody to blame but himself.

I decided since I was awake now and it was nearly 6pm that I would get up and make dinner. We had planned to reheat the leftover pot roast but I had also picked up some asparagus to make with it. So I put the asparagus in the oven and took out the pot roast and put in on the stove to warm up. I am glad that I finally found something that Marshall will actually eat the leftovers. Hopefully, I can find some more crockpot dishes that he likes too.

After dinner Marshall decided to go play and cuss at the Xbox some more so I put on my PJs and did some writing. Eventually, Marshall had enough Xbox and decided to come watch the movie we rented. He made some old fashioned stove top popcorn that had come in his Indian Christmas gift and we turned on the movie Dark Shadows. It was actually a pretty good movie and neither of fell asleep while watching it either! There's a first time for everything. After successfully making it through that movie, JoJo and I retired to the bedroom to finish watching Amish Mafia which we had just happened upon in the living room. Shortly after, Marshall gave in and joined us.
