Nolan Eason

At 1:03AM on Friday, March 30, 2012 my first child was born - a son. We named him Nolan Eason. 21" long, 5lb 3oz. He was beautiful and perfect in every way, except that he was stillborn. As we searched for answers to his untimely death, we also searched for comfort. This blog was created as a way of working through my sorrow by trying to find something beautiful in the world each day. Hopefully, along the way it will help others to heal as well.

Star Light, Star Bright

Last night when I got home, there was a package sitting at my front door. I opened it late last night and it was from my dear friend Teresa who lives in Oregon. She sent a beautiful card with it saying how she has been trying to figure out something she could do for the new baby and then one of my blog entries inspired her. It was the blog about the star we found in our front yard one morning and how it reminded me of Nolan and how his star burned out long before he was able to shine. So she made this amazing piece of art for the new baby to always remind him of his big brother Nolan. It is so fitting as we've already discussed how we plan on telling our other children all about Nolan and how there are two stars in the sky named after him so they can always look up at the stars and know that their big brother is always shining down on them and watching out for them.

I finally went out to get the mail today and found another package from my Mom's friend Barbara. Barbara's youngest son Stephen and I went to junior high and high school and just this year he and his wife had their first child, a son. When we lost Nolan, Barbara contacted me and told she too had lost her first son due to a stillbirth. She was one of several women who contacted me to share with me their stories and let me know that they too knew what I was going through. I know she too understands my fears and anxieties over this pregnancy and she has sent me many messages of comfort on Facebook. It is somewhat comforting to know of people that experienced our loss and then went on to have future healthy pregnancies. Stephen's wife is a very talented crocheter and has crocheted some really cute outfits for their infant son. In the package I found that Barbara had sent me a crocheted monkey hat that her daughter-in-law had made for us along with a cute little monkey onesie that Barbara had picked up to match it. It was very sweet of them both to think of us and our little boy and I pray every day that we are able to use it and send them pictures of our little boy in it.

I spent the evening watching the X Factor finale by myself and while I wasn't surprised by the results I have to admit I was really hoping Carly Rose would win. Although she still did amazing by getting to the finale, I think it would have been really outstanding for a 13 year old prodigy to have walked away with it all. It certainly would have been well deserved.
