Marshall and I arrived at Labor and Delivery this morning at 6am. They seemed a bit confused that I was up there that early and once they put us in a triage room the nurse informed me they weren't expecting me until 7am. When I informed her that my doctor told me to be there at 6 as she was planning on doing the amnio at 7-7:30 she just said ok and left me to change in to my gown. After I was changed and sitting on the bed waiting the nurse returned and told me that Tifni had just arrived and clued the rest of them into what was going on. She said they didn't know Dr. McLean was coming in specifically to do my amnio as she wasn't on call that morning. Tifni came in shortly thereafter with her orientee and put in an IV so she could take my blood samples. She also put on the baby's heartbeat monitor and one to monitor my contractions. Within a few minutes she informed me that I was contracting. That was news to me. I was definitely not feeling any contractions. She ended up giving me some IV fluids to help with the contractions so that the contractions didn't interfere with my amnio being done.

Eventually Dr. McLean showed up and since I was contracting and was dilated last week at my appointment with Dr. Carroll, she decided to check my cervix to see if I had dilated anymore. I indeed had as I was 2cm dilated now. They did find a good place to perform the amnio and so they prepped me. The needle was indeed a very long one but skinny. It hurt just as much as any needle but what hurt the most was the minute it went into my uterus I started contracting hard and didn't let up until the needle was out of me. She pulled extra amniotic fluid out of me just in case something happened to the first vial. They then put me back on the monitors to watch me for another 30 minutes to make sure I didn't go into labor. I did, however, start feeling the contractions which I was having and they were coming about every 2-3 minutes apart. They weren't horrible but they definitely were enough to take my breath away for a few seconds. Eventually, they let us go shortly after 8am.

We decided to go to Saltworks and grab some breakfast. After breakfast we tried our best to just kill time until we heard the results of the amnio. We then came back home and all of us ended up taking a nap for a few hours. I fell asleep on the couch, Marshall in the bed and JoJo in the hallway between the couch and the bedroom. We met Susan, Stacey and Shea for lunch at Tandori Bites hoping a little spicy Indian food would help push the baby out. Dawn and Eric ended up stopping by to chat for a bit and give us some hugs, promising to come see the baby once we were home from the hospital. Lunch was great and it really killed a few hours.

Around 4pm I finally got a text message from Dr. McLean saying she called the lab and they said it would be another 2-3 hours before they had the results. She informed me that if she hadn't heard back from them by 7pm she was going to call them again. Great. We piddled around the house all afternoon. My Dad came over and replaced some electrical outlets for us and then he and Marshall attempted to hang my swingasan chair Marshall bought me for Valentine's Day. It proved to be much more challenging that it should have been. They finally thought they got it in good and had me come over and sit in it to see if it was hung low enough. Well, as soon as I started to put any weight in it the board above started crackling and popping. Marshall and my Dad both had the "oh shit" look on their face and went to grab the chair yelling at me to "get up, get up!" Yeah, so much for the swing. I decided it wasn't worth them trying to figure out a way to make it hang on the porch that I would just bite the bullet and go by the base for it from Pier 1 and let it hang from the free standing base and swing.

About 7:30pm Dr. McLean finally called with the test results and they were as I had dreaded. Not mature. My heart just sank. I felt like just hanging up the phone and crying. I didn't want to go through another week of torturous worry. I wanted him out and safe and healthy. She talked to me a few minutes explaining to me that she had talked with the docs at MFM and they agreed that I could be induced in another week without a repeat amnio. She then told me she would be in touch about when they would have me come in for the induction. I told Marshall the results and then went and put my PJs on as Marshall went to play Xbox. By that point I was emotionally and mentally exhausted. I turned on a movie in the bedroom and fell asleep. I awoke to Marshall telling me to order a pizza and he would pick it up for dinner as it was only 9pm. I called in the order and then fell right back to sleep. I woke up to Marshall bringing in the pizza. We ate some pizza in bed and shortly after I was ready to go back to sleep. I was hoping that in the morning I wouldn't be so disappointed with the news of the day.
